Why not just try different tubes in the XK-3? You can buy a lot of
tubes for $600 - $900. Different vintages/brands provide different
tones/benefits. New Sovteks 12AX7LPS's give more overdrive, old GE
12AX7a's give maybe a little less overdrive but don't have a low
frequency drop off, other's probably have subtle differences. Be
adventurous and the master of your universe.
