snip>>Rolands VK8 leslie stinks,<< Not when it's parameters are
edited it doesn't. I had the Electro previously and thought initially
the VK-8 sounded odd, but soon got it to sound up there with the
Electro, well within a whisker or two. It's quite easy to edit the VK
to sound awful. That's the trouble with edit facilities, like life
there's the option to do good or complete cock it up.

Interested to hear what you did to the R3-147. Sounds like a good
project, building a wooden case.
How did you extend the horn. I thought the length of horn was too
short. Did you lose the honkyness?
I had thought to re-house the unit and put mics ( different mics )
further away to allow for some off-internal cabinet reflections of
sound. I've noticed that the 'Leslie' effect is better heard from the
outside of the cabinet albeit's it's very low in volume.

Talking of Leslie sims. I'm listening ( on phones ) to Joey giving
it some, on the XK-3 as I'm typing this post. Using Winamp and giving
it some heavy EQ, that 'weedy' H-S Digital Leslie isn't weedy at all.
Sounds terrific.
Altering the Eq to firm up the bass and mid and sloping the treble
away to lose the heavy key-click brings it to life.
What a wonderful instrument. The player's quite good too LOL.
Thomas.
