Subject:Re: Need Help Adjusting XK-3 Key Click

I agree totally, I have to do different things with different amps.
That's why I tried the Ampeg tube bass amp, no horn and a bass 15,
it comes close to sounding mellower like the Leslie. There are so
many variables, a person just has to tweak things until it pleases
their own personal tastes.
Do you have a Hammond Andrew? The key click on the XK3 sounds the
same through my 122 as my B3 does but Hammonds definitely vary. It
sounds like both my Hammonds sound, with the different presets. My
other Hammond is an old 1940 BC that's been modified to be like a
B3, I have that one in a custom made choped case. They have a
different sound, the BC has a bigger tone generator and it dosen't
have foldback. The 16' drawbar goes all the way down so it has
deeper bass on the lowest octave. Two B3's can sound quite a bit
different side by side because they're electro mechanical devices.
If you don't clean the key contacts once in a while they will get
dirty and oxidize, therefore get noisy and make much more key klick.
A real Hammond has 9 key contacts per key, one for each drawbar, so
that's alot of contacts that can get dirty. Like you said, sound is
definitely a different world.
