There have been similar discussions for boosting the CX-3 signal before it gets to a
Speakeasy preamp. One way is to run it through a channel on a small mixer. That's why
Speakeasy added the Barker to their preamps. You want to boost the signal before it gets
to the tube in the MS145.

Using your JBL as a sub is probably a great alternative solution though.
