Subject:Re: Just got a MS 145
See my post #27477. I play LH bass through mine with a NE2's lower
split which is VEry bassy.. it's loud and clean. If you're inputting
a strong clean signal and your internal CX3 preset settings are
right - everything else is in the way you use the Pro-145 controls.
It's in the manual - gain, preamp mode, volume and "active" EQ. For
instance, if your signal output from the CX3 is weak but the Pro-145
is turned way up with a lot of gain and bass knob on high, forget it.
It'll sound bad: Not feeding a tube enough signal is about as bad as
feeding it too much, then cranking the volume up = either will
distort. Also, the CX3 is not so great for LH bass (I owned a v2) as
there's not a particularly bassy lower split (no foldback? - I
forget). If you take a generally mild bass sound and turn it up, it's
not going to sound too much bassier (cleanly) without careful
adjustment. Last, if the Pro-145 sounds good at at medium volume, but
what you're noticing is at higher volume, then the problem is with
your CX3 settings or signal output, 99% sure. The woofer is rated at
250 watts rms being driven by a 100 watt rms amp, and it goes down to
± 55Hz versus a typical Leslie woofer down to ± 70Hz. Walter j
