I played these for my girlfriend. She is not a keyboard player. But she used
to be a sound technician (live and recording studio).
I didn't tell her what she was listening to. Here is her response:
CX-3 - Sounds artificial. Too much click, she thought it was the players
fingernails on a live recording.
Nord - Sounds like "caramel". Too thick and muddy
XK-3 - As good as the B4. Doesn't sound as old, but great sound and good
release on the notes.
B4 - Sounds like an old Hammond. Good warmth. Good attack and release sound
on the keys.
Bottom line, a toss-up between the XK and the B4.
Overall, what she liked about the XK and the B4 was how the attack and
release of the notes sounded. These two sounded real to her. The other two
sounded somehow synthetic.
I have to dig out the CD from the book and have her give a listen.
