Subject:Re: Taping over Logos and other stupid stuff
Jeez....all this crybaby crap over clones is getting to seem like we're crawling up our own asses. Just because I don't like the CX3 doesn't mean its not a quality piece of product. Just cuz I don't own a VK8 or Vcombo anymore doesn't mean it's not a quality piece of product. The fact is they're good pieces of gear. The Voce V5 is a fantastic piece of gear for the price. The Electro is an amazing piece of gear for the price. And sorry, but the Xk2 was a great piece of gear also. While some of you noticed a beating problem, I didn't; it's funny, but most of those who heard a beating problem don't seem to notice the shrillness of the CX3. The XK2 had a fantastic feeling keyboard and a very thick tone. The CX3 has a great layout and a good leslie sim. The Electro has a great leslie sim and pretty good C/V. The Roland stuff has great grind. This whole line of Hammond chasing their own tales thing is so done, someone should stick a damn fork in it. Funny, even Moog is
cloning themselves. Bottom line is they don't make tonewheels anymore. But the Hammond was a clone of a pipe organ to begin with.
All this time sniping is time better spent playing with your organ. (whatever that might be!) :-)

I've always thought this was a strange practice. I've heard the mantra "They (keyboard manufacturers) aren't paying me to advertise
for them, so why should I do it for free?", and I will admit that I do practice that same school of thought when it comes to my
clothing. However, I've never seen a guitar player put tape over the 'Fender' or 'Gibson' on the headstock just because Fender
didn't give them the guitar for free. I guess the next logical step would be to paint your 'Orange' amps black to disguise them.
Heck, most gearheads can make out a Triton from 50 yards away just by the color and shape, and nobody besides a gearhead would care
one way or the other. If the reason Schaffer does it is to keep from getting a sponsor pissed, I think that's a stupid game to
play. I always admired Greg Hawkes from The Cars for blatantly displaying his penchant for the lowly Casio.
I've always tried to use the best gear I could afford and I've always been proud to display it, especially my Korg CX-3, which until
very recently was considered to be "the Clone to own", but now seems to be the red-headed stepchild of Clones (but I'm still keeping
mine anyway). Somebody earlier correctly stated that once Hammond quit making *tonewheel* organs they joined the ranks of Cloners
just like everybody else. That's why we call them CloneWHEELS, not CloneHAMMONDS. AFAIC, they threw away their legacy when they
quit making B3's/C3's, but they've been coasting by on their name ever since. And even now that they've finally stepped back up to
the plate with the XK-3, B-3P, and 'New B3', there are sadly going to be a lot of players who buy one of these Clones solely based
on the Hammond name, which wouldn't irritate me so much if Hammond had been trying to make a quality product all along.
My 2%.
