Referring customers to the local dealer is one thing - and a very good thing! But if the dealer doesn't stock it, then what's the use???
When HS refers you to a local dealer, are they going to take the extra time to find out if they have ever ordered the unit you are seeking? Probably not - nor should they. You will need to do that by calling the dealer. Then, if the dealer doesn't intend on stocking it, (you can probably see where I'm going with this....hmmm...), then you will hit the net to buy it on-line or call HS back to find another "closest" dealer - then the whole scenario could repeat itself. Maybe HS will just say they'll sell it to you afterall - who knows? It could be a bit of a problem with all these calls and no resolution. Selling direct might be a good idea for them, afterall.

Now the deal is if you are within a reasonable distance of a Hammond dealer you will be directed there; if there is no Hammond dealer within a reasonable distance Hammond will sell to you direct. Josiah's contact info is correct. Good luck!
I would hope that they would protect what dealer network is left there. And after all with Hammond single manuals sold by as many music dealers as there are purchases should certainly be possible.
Back in about the '60s Milwaukee had two fine Hammond dealer stores (and pianos). With the aging of Bob Kames and Alzheimers etc. the stores are no more.
Due to having less dealers Generalmusic does do direct sales in order to keep their products available. I believe their line sells better in Europe. Their Promega 3 piano is unmatchable. I bought one with 10 day trial return offer- but I didn't return it!
