Subject:Re: Slight Gear Lust Reprieve... Calm Down....

Want to hear something even crazier than that? The XK3 costs more than what
I paid for each one of my four B3/Leslie combinations. And I doubt seriously
that I will be selling those on EBay for the new clone-du-jour.

Which brings me back to the wisdom of paying $20,000 for the New B3. This
technology moves so fast that the New B3 will probably be obsolete in a few
years. Look at the older clones like the VK7, XB2, XK2, etc. They all sound
great, but they were purchased for over $1500 by people who strived to get
closer to the "B3 sound". And where are they now? Forgotten by many who feel
that they need the XK3.

I bet the same thing will happen with the New B3, and the XK3.

I have been on the Clonewheel list since its inception, and the Hammond list
before that. Every time a new generation of clone makes its debut, all the
first buyers rave about how that the clone "Nails the Sound". It wasn't so
long ago that I heard this from new Electro owners. Now what has happened?
We see Electro owners no longer satisfied with their rigs and are now raving
about the XK3.

Next year Korg, or Roland, or Nord, or H/Z will come out with a new model
that "nails" the B3 sound. And what happens? We all sell our XK3's on EBay
to be the "First One On The Block" to own the ultimate clone.

My suggestion.. for those who need the upgrade to the two sets of drawbars
and pedal expansion, the XK3 may be the right choice now. For others who
formally raved about their gear, and are pleased with the sound. Wait a bit.
Pretty soon you will hear about how H/Z needs to fix this, or that... or why
their rig crashed in the middle of a gig. Let the dust settle, then with a
clear mind and a clear assessment of your needs, proceed with your choice.

Now, since I don't gig, clearly I'm easier to please than many of
you. But I'm pretty much immune to all the excitement over the
latest "clone du jour" since I bought a '54 B-2 (updated/improved
with Trek percussion and reverb, as well as smooth drawbars) and a
pair of Leslies (a 21h and a 31 H). The whole outfit sounds
awesome, cost less than an XK3, and was funded totally by selling my
CX-3, Speakeasy and JBL powered speaker.

As we say here in Motown, "Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby!"
You'll love your A-100 Steve (even if you have to leave it behind
when you play out)!
