Subject:Re: Ship Advice CX3, Gaff Tape vs wood veneer
Hey Steve...I have some bad news for you. That information, according to UPS insurance inspectors AND the manager at the UPS depot, is incorrect. According to UPS, the only thing the $5k insurance guarantees is that it is kept under lock and key until the driver himself loads it, but as far as special handling and "non-conveyor belt" routing, they swear up and down that is misinformation. Furthermore, unless a receipt can be produced that an item actually was paid $5k for, they won't honor that replacement rate.
I'm just reporting back what they told me....after you gave me that tip, I tried using that for a couple items, both at the UPS Store, and at the UPS Depot in Bedford Park (not a UPS Store).

Hi Gang
Here is a cool shipping tip for UPS. If you insure the item for 5000.00 cost
is 17.50. The package must be hand carried from truck to truck. The item
will never be put on the sorting belts. This is where the damage is really
done. We use that feature all the time on large & heavy items
