Subject:Re: CX3 or XK-2 now add Electro
Through the leslie, I found NOTHING better than Electro-Speakeasy-Leslie. Its my favorite.

I absolutely think the Electro Clavs are the best that I've heard in any
keyboard, and I really liked the Electro EP Sounds and Effects. However,
because I get no inspiration from the Electro Acoustic Pianos and because I
was constantly fighting the velocity curve on EPs and found my playing so
uneven, I started looking at the Motif ES7. (I also have to play along
with Midi files for "cocktail hours" and do have a need for strings and
synth sounds now that our band is getting into 80s-90s songs: so the motif
ES makes sense).
Now, I'll get to the point of this thread. With the motif ES7, I've been
using the ELectro and CX3 just for organ. I have been a long time CX3 user
and advocate, So the following was very surprising for me:
Solely in the context of playing Mono through a Speakeasy preamp into a
Leslie 142, the Electro cuts through and sounds better, to my ears, than
does the CX3. I am not talking about any other situation---just Speakeasy
into real Leslie. All I did to the Electro was shut off the Leslie
simulator, reduce key click from 8 to 5, store the program, and then store
alternative drawbar settings in the user drawbar memories.
I also have an a100 chop, so I'm familiar with the sound I'm after. Again,
this result surprised me, because I always thought the CX3 raw tone was
more realistic, but not in this limited context that I use it.
By the way, the motif es acoustic bright grand cuts through a heavy mix
without sounding harsh better than anything I've ever played.
