Subject:Re: New Leslie 2121 vs MS Pro-145
As Charleton Heston said in the first Planet of the Apes movie: "It's
a madhouse!" I just looked at a picture of the 2121 Tower of Suzuki
Fronkenschteen monster and don't see how anyone in their right mind
could possibly compare it to a Motion Sound Pro-145. It's way
bigger, way taller, way heavier, made to be in pieces, appears all
technical oddness with dozens of weird electronic oddities waiting to
go wrong - versus near-zero potential problems and years of trouble-
free, mainenance-free operation with a MS Pro-145.
I'll say this again: The MS Pro-145 is a "Leslie" with both high and
low rotors in the cabinet, 70Watt RMS top amp, 130Watt RMS bottom
amp, new design tube preamp stage to get a wide variety of tone and
color not possible in a single Leslie model. Pick your favorite
Leslie from the 122 through 147 family and I can make my MS-145 sound
like it, except I'll be twice as loud. They are "Killer Leslies."
I'll say this again: Hammond-Suzuki is not Hammond. They don't get it
and apparently, given all input and opportunity to change - they
won't. Hammond-Suzuki-Leslie is not Leslie. They don't get it either.
And HS new product quality control has always been questionable.
To be fair, Motion Sound is not Leslie either BUT the Pro-145 is
designed and engineered to be as close as humanly possible to a real
Leslie - the maker's own well-maintained 147 Leslie - then improved
on in all the ways an organist could ask for. Even with HBS I can get
the Pro-145's 65 lb ergonomic, recessed handle cabinet onto a dolly
to move; then tip and slide it on a carpeted board into a van. I
haven't tried it yet, but have measured; it will fit in the back seat
of my midsize car.
Is Hammond-Suzuki trying to copy a real Leslie as close as humanly
possible? No! They present us with a frickin' Godzilla monster! Their
major market is in Japan and the Pacific Rim, where musicians and
wannabe's will buy anything with the name Hammond or Leslie on it.
We're supposed to know better and sure as H-E-Double-Toothpicks have
a better choice. And I didn't even look at the Godzilla price yet!
