Subject:Re: Deep Purple Hush -
I have been playing this song in my band for a little over a year now and I
have a couple of observations in the "for what its worth" category:
There are at least four different decent recordings of Hush that are readily
available. Seek them out and pick out the parts that you can hear and or
duplicate. At least one version is almost completely "doable." I say almost because
Lord is tough to copy as it is, but in at least one recording of Hush it is
obvious that he laid down more than one track!
The most difficult thing for me to duplicate was his sound. (It still is, and
I use an XK-3, Speakeasy Howler and a vintage 147.) I understand that Jon got
his trademark sound by miking his Leslies through a Marshall stack that was
cranked to the max. (Deep Purple was voted the loudest band ever at one point,
overtaking former record holders The Who.) I found that even if I am able to
play some parts just like Jon did, they sound thin because his equipment was so
unique. The closest I came was last summer when I had the opportunity to
perform it on a real B3 and 147 that were both cranking' to the max.
Anyway, I am interested in others comments, as I am too am trying to master
this puppy!

Has anyone got any tips on playing this classic......
I've got some of it down, seems to be largely based around a C7 and C
blues.....
but I'm struugling to work out the chords on the....
"na nana na... nana na na na naaa..." bit...
Also, if anyones got any tips for playing any of those blues licks
that are thrown in from time to time it would be appreciated....
that kind of percussive playing mr lord does in the verse with the C7
& F stabs are also a bit of a mystery....
cheers
