Subject:XK-3 and Leslies
XK-3 update--
A back-ordered 1122 kit finally arrived yesterday, so now I can plug
my two Leslies directly into the XK-3 without going through my AO-
28. If anything, it sounds even BETTER than it did before. I think
the AO-28 was coloring the sound a bit more than what was wanted,
although I'm not sure if there are any tone-shaping circuits at that
stage of the preamp (after the RCA plug input). Things were a bit
bass-happy. Now I have Hammond sound that is very natural and loud
as hell.
With the addition of this ~$200 interface, I see no reason why
anybody using a real Leslie would need any other preamp that claims
to sound "just like an AO-28." I think the preamp inside the XK-3
plus the 1122 takes care of it just fine at a measurable cost-
savings.
When I press the 'fast' button on the XK-3, the Leslies spin. No
adjustment of any parameters was necessary. Cautionary note: the
1122 only has one outlet (6-pin), so the only reason I can run two
Leslies with this setup is by dint of the fact that the 31H has a
pass-along Leslie outlet that I used to plug the 122 into.
I have a cheap MIDI keyboard plugged into the XK-3 for a lower
manual now, so this thing is getting really close to the real deal.
