Subject:XK3 Discoveries...
Just got the XK3. I am tweaking it through my stage rig (Speakeasy
stereo rack / twin SRM 450's). Have made a few interesting discoveries
that I would like to share. MUCH MORE LATER.
It seems that H/Z has not fully solved the harmonic beating problem.
Unless I have something set wrong, when you play notes without the C/V
or Leslie, there is a subtle beating that is apparent on certain notes.
Sort of like a very weak chorus vibrato. It is certainly not a pure
tonewheel sound.
This is also really apparent when you play certain intervals. Try this.
Play a basic C chord triad (C,E,G), then an F in the 3rd inversion
(C,F,A), then a C7 (C,G,Bb). You will hear no beating for the C chords,
but you will hear beating for the F chord. Will this bother me? I will
see in performance tomorrow.. It's just radically different from a real
B3, and a previous problem with the XK2.
Now the good news... I have tweaked the Leslie sim to work great in
stereo. We will see how it sounds live tomorrow. I will hold off posting
the tweaks until I can hear it in performance. The Leslie sim is not as
good as the CX3's, but it's certainly not as bad as when I heard it at
NAMM. Would love to have separate mike distances and angles for the horn
and rotor. That was the key in tweaking the Leslie on the CX3.
The Chorus Vibrato is almost there. It just needs a depth parameter to
tweak. H/Z. are you listening? I don't care what they say, it is not the
same as the New B3's vibrato circuit. The new B3 is spot on! This is
not.
Presently I am struggling with the Key Click parameters. I just can't
get it to sound right. I will keep working at it. Any suggestions would
be welcome.
I do love the key action. It is easy to play and responds nice. The
Percussion is The BOMB!!!! Also love the expression pedal.. That should
be fun in performance.
* OK.. I will add more later. My neighbors are pissed ("NO MORE
HANG EM HIGH, PLEASE!!!!).
