Subject:Re: SPAM Was: Speakeasy Clone Pedal for sale

Hi All,

The Charter is very clear about what is and is not spam on the CWSG.

Announcing that you have musical gear for sale, either privately or on eBay, is NOT spam. Announcing that you are playing a gig this Friday is NOT spam. Please make sure that you create new topics, rather than adding these discussion to "Re: Saving programs on a VK-8" or something. A sentence or two about the merits of the gear or service is OK.

Announcing that the auction that you listed on eBay three days ago is going to close tomorrow, and is currently at a ridiculously low price (IYHO) IS spam. Announcing that no one showed up to your Friday gig, so come on, let's all try to make the one next Saturday IS spam.

What is the difference? The first two examples are simple, low-key announcements of gear or services. These are perfectly "normal" things for a musician to do, and all things being equal, they are probably of interest to some members of the list. The last two examples amount to nagging or high-pressure sales.

Regards,

-BW
