Subject:MS KP200S-pops and clicks

I recently purchased a used KP200S, I'm playing my Emu B-3 module and
an Alesis synth through it with the Emu and synth output both at
about 6, the gain on the amp at 9, and the amp master volume at 5. No
pre-amp or mixer. Plenty of volume and great sound except I sometimes
get a crackling noise that sounds like arcing. I don't think the amp
should be clipping or distorting at these settings, and it really
sounds like an electrical thing, and doesn't always happen at the
same frequency, or chord density. It seems to be a volume issue, but
it doesn't always happen just because I turn up. Anybody else have
any similar experiences, and were you able to fix it? Basically I'm
lovin' the amp, the overall sound is really nice; huge improvement in
piano sounds (yes, inspiring!!), nice fat organ tone; before I was
running keys through the band's mono P.A. It's a great amp, but this
popping noise is...intriguing...
