Subject:JBL Eon 60 cycle hum-Help

I bought a set of JBL Eon 10's which sound great but I also bought a rackmount Behringer mixer which has unbalanced 1/4 in. outputs. According to the Eon manual if there is hum or buzz balanced lines should be used. I tried a linematching transformer and a mic cable but the volume dropped significantly. Using regular guitar cables I am getting the hum. Should I try balanced 1/4 to 1/4 cables or a 1/4 to XLR cable? The Eons have XLR or 1/4 in. inputs. Any ideas?
