It's an accident that the Hammond sound fits every kind of popular and
religious music that the world adores but Mr. Hammond would loathe.

It's an accident that unwanted electrical switch noise resulted in the
famous key click.

It's an accident that Mr. Hammond was born in a time that he had to
use electro mechanical means of producing the tone, resulting in a
contraption that still works 50 years after the fact. Consider if the
original Hammond had been built with 1950's transistor technology. Not
a single one would be working today.

It's an accident that Mr. Young's time and cost saving compromise in
rushing out a percussion circuit resulted in the very musical touch
response percussion instead of the reiterating xylophone crap effects
on competing systems.

It's an accident that a man like Don Leslie was there to have the idea
that lifted the Hammond into its crowning glory, and that he
persevered in the face of discouragement and ridicule from Hammond.

Sure there were good engineers and lots of effort involved. That can
be said about almost any product. But without the magical accidents
that happened to create serendipity for organ lovers, and given
today's technology, Laurens Hammond would have created something that
we would ignore.
