One can readily buy a small pc board that takes the wires from any
keyboard and puts out midi. There are several versions available for
the various ways keyboards are wired (ie. individual contacts, or
a "buss" system or scanner of groups of 8 keys that are multiplexed,
and keyboards with 2 contact pairs each for velocity sensing. One
supplier is Midi Gadgets Boutique.

I was thinking about doing this to an old dead keyboard of mine... a
Ensoniq DSP-1 (real early sampled piano with wooden keys) but it has
a multiplex setup that is not standard to any of the available boards.
