Thanks for what I consider a greatly needed intervention. I get so tired
of opening duplicate postings, sometimes 2 or 3 times in one sitting! I love
this message board (or whaever it's called - though I've been online now for 2
years [2/02] I'm still not too hip about computer lingo). I believe the
evolution of Hammond clones is a VERY important part of music technology. Back in
late-'91, when the XB-2 came out, the idea of a portable instrument (other than
the old BX-/CX-3 and the dreadful DX-7 patch and a few others I'm not familiar
with) that could even approximate a Hammond was amazing. My experience with
clones (XB-2, XK-2, and now the near-perfect excellence of the Version 2 Korg
CX-3) I consider to be experience with ORGANS. I've owned and loved a Hammond
M-102/Leslie 760 for 18 years. Beautiful setup. But, between the eternal need
for service, a lack of funds equipped to handle this, and life in a little
studio apartment, I really appreciate the clones I've played and loved for years.
And I'm glad enough other people feel this way. These instruments are great -
they're SUCH an answer. An average, I'd say, of 405-lbs. less than the
original... no tubes to blow 2 minutes before stage-time... no generator to puke up
whatever new problem you're un-versed in; you get the idea!
But I digress. Thanks again for your posting and for this great 'board. In
closing... anyone need a near-showroom fresh Hammond XK-2? It has 3 years of my
use on it, but it's never been on the road; it's been sitting in its' original
box, tucked away in my closet since 11/02 when I got the CX-3. Anyone in the
NYC area interested, please email me - I'll let it go for little. Best wishes
