Not wanting to start another charged debate (& couldn't anyway really, since I've never been privileged to see Soulive), but when you saw the Meters was it the original lineup? They have continued to play here & there for many years but it is most often w/ a couple original members & the rest are replacements. The results, according to some other hardcore Meters fans, don't compare to the original lineup. I was privileged to see the original group back in `76 (they broke up in `77 as I recall) in a club in Hammond, LA & they were the funkiest group I ever saw. They really made thier records suck. Ziggy Modeliste just nailed the crap out of that N'awlins funk thang. I really do want to see Soulive too, but if they were playing against a different version of the Meters it wouldn't be the same contest.
