Subject:Re: Is this boiling down to a vintage vs. modern audio discussion?

It's obvious you read my post because you quoted the "fluff in the
horn throat" as one of your reasons. However, you left out the
following bullet items which are SIGNIFICANT and result in this being
more than a vintage vs. modern audio discussion:

Diffusers in the Leslie horn vs. no diffusers in the Motion sound
Conical bell (Leslie) vs. Asymmetrical elliptical bell with vacuum
elimination port (MS)
Wood bass rotor (Leslie) vs. Foam or plastic (??) in the MS
Plywood cabinet (Leslie) vs. Particle board (??) in the MS
Compartment louvres (Leslie) vs. Openings covered with speaker grill
cloth (MS)
Behavior of the crossover at the break frequency of 800 Hz
Phenolic dome on the horn driver (Leslie) vs. Titanium on the MS

And that was before any discussions of tube vs. solid state came into
being. It has been my experience in building Leslie cabinets using
various materials and components that ALL of these factors come into
play in determination of why the sound is different between a stock
or hotrodded 145 and the Motion Sound line.

Just my $0.02
