this is true but there are components and balances that Leslie hit upon that
makes it sound like a leslie. A Hammond tech that I met out in San Diego came
to look at my B3/122 and told me he had been over to Greg Rollie's house out
in Poway and looked at a frankenleslie Rollie had had made; that it didn't
sound like a leslie anymore- was quite noisy. i'm thinking perhaps once the power
increases, the mass equation gets lopsided. this may be the problem with the
mini leslies..too much gain overshadowing the leslie effect. Perhaps if the
above is true, then a super leslie should have a larger mass, a larger bass
rotor and longer treble rotor, just as a trombone's bell gives it a deeper sound
than a trumpet's. but it would be the size of a refridgerator and the chorale
and tremelo sounds would be different. sometimes the original idea is the best.
but i keep thinking.... there must be a magic formula for making a mini
leslie sound like the original...
