Subject:Leslie 760 - 860 questions
Some of you out there may know the answer to this so here goes.....is a the
power amp and crossover in the leslie 860 similar to the 760 ? I have an 860
that I have been using with my VK7 and I have often wanted to go to use the 860
amp , x over and treble driver with a 15'' woofer.
To do this I would of course need a different cabinet (
I have a couple spare 45 cabinets around here). Also I would need to choose a
good 15'' woofer - As I recall my 12'' 860 woofer is 6 ohms.
I can
imagine that the solid state amps of my 860 could perhaps mount similarly to a 900
etc. I also do have a 900 but the thing is just too damn big to transport so
it stays in my basement.
I really don't think that solid state
leslies necessarily sound inferior to tube ones. In many ways I love the sound of
my 860.....but there is just not enough low end. My 900 sounds great also but
it is highly modified......I stuffed the big cabinet with damping material and
use an external power amp, tube electronic x over and tube preamp with it.
By the way thanks to all who replied
to my questions regarding the VK7/860 switching and signal path questions
last week.
