Just wanted to thank David for turning me on to the Classic Albums: Machine
Head DVD. I just picked it up yesterday at Best-Buy. It has Jon and all the
guys talking about who, what, where, when, & how. Great stuff with Mr. Lord
talking about playing through Marshall's, overdubbing of solos, etc. If Deep
Purple is your thing pick it up you won't be sorry. And I think several of
us should thank David for posting his CX-3 Settings!!! Thanks a Million!!!

Actually, he clearly demonstrates on the DVD "Classic Albums: Machine
Head" how he plays the solo from Pictures at Home. So he could have
played it on the album without overdubbing. Hush is definatly overdubbed
because the two parts have different Leslie speeds.
Regarding the Hush solo. The song is in the key of C. He basically uses
the blues scale and alternates between major and minor thirds. The end
of the solo he is just holding a high C with the classic 5th and 7th
added moving down to a F then a C again.. I have played this solo a
hundred times. Love it.

That is incorrect. I can't tell you about Hush, but at least parts of
the Pictures of Home solo were overdubbed.
Can anybody here play the Hush solo and can tell us about its secrets?
What are the chords it is based on (which inversions)?
Especially about the last seconds of the solo (approx. 3:50), where he
holds a single chord for quite a few beats and then kicks in a quite
dissonant chord leading to "naa na na naaa...".
Which are those chords and where does he play them?
