Except for an unprogrammable Roland MIDI patchbay about 15 years ago, the
programmable patchbays I have used in the past was the MX8 and the JL Cooper
piece. If I recall correctly, neither of them allowed you to alter CC
messages. Channel bumping, filtering, transposition and zones were all
fairly easy to do. The MX8 actually allowed you to name the patches, the JL
Cooper did not. If found the patchbays to be invaluable when I used to use
a Yamaha KX88 as my controller. I sometimes find the need for one again in
my studio, but my A70 and my Kurzweil PC2X pretty much have all the control
I currently need.

Yamaha used to make a MIDI patchbay type device that I think allowed you to
actually convert MIDI CC messages to different ones. I cannot for the life
of me remember the model name, but it was really cool. Unfortunately you
needed to have deft knowledge of Hex to edit it.
