Subject:Re: How do I turn that blasted Cx3 noise off?
I don't think the "noise" referred to here is coming from the noise parameter. The noise
parameter adjusts a constant noise level that is unaffected by the rotor sim.
I too have experienced the "noise" related to the internal leslie sim when pushing the cx3
volume hard with some distortion dialed in and the bass above 9.
When I first got my CX3 (v.2) I was just using headphones or a mixer and i was very
disapointed by the low frequency harmonic distorion coming from the leslie sim when the
bass tone knob was above 8 or 9 o'clock (i.e practically off). Most notable when holding
two or more bass notes a few semi-tones apart: you will hear a flabby almost farty noise
with each revolution of the rotor and in-sync with the specific beat frequencies occurring.
I emailed the list and a few members and found that most were getting the sound, but
some liked it.
I have a 1956 C3 and leslie 122 so I know what the real deal sounds like and it does not
have such an exagerated whooshy/splatty sound (although the same sort of sound is
happening, just not nearly so prominent or exagerated).
With the leslie sim off or the preamp off (which turns the leslie sim off), the noise sound
disapears (to bad cuz I thinkthe cx3 leslie sim is the best out there except for this noise).
thus, it is integrated inlto the leslie sound.
I then got a speakeasy classic which imporved the cx3 sound greatly (I love it), but also
exagerated the whooshy sound evern further as the distorion/lelsie is coming before the
speakeasy in an opposite manner from the real set up (hammond>preamp>amp>leslie) so
the whooshy lelsie sound is being distorted further by the speakeasy. It is fine with the
bass low and the sound fairly clean, but when I start to push it, it all turns to mush.
Finally I got a rotosphere to put after the speakeasy. Now I run cx3 (no leslie sim, preamp
off, w/ noise & leakage)>speakeasy>rotosphere. The sound is great (the rotosphere is a
little hissy, buy when compared side to side to the real leslie, my lelsie's mechanical rotor/
motor noise is actually louder. I set the rotosphere gain so that it just starts to distort
when I push the cx3 & speakeasy to full tilt, back off the speakeasy, sound cleans up. I am
considering adding the barker to the speakeasy so that all the grunge comes from the
speakeasy and just a clean lelsile sim comes from the rotosphere.

You know that noise that is suppose to emulate the
swirling motion of the leslie horn. When I turn my cx3
to full blast it drives me nuts. Does anyone know how
to trun that off? Thanks
