Subject:Re: KB3 Mode on Kurzweil K and PC2 Series and Classic Keys ROM
I currently use the KB3 mode on my PC2 on gigs when I have to fly so it
is important to keep the size of my rig down. I will definitely agree that
it sounds like garbage in comparison to the 2 V5s/motion sound stack that I
usually play. That being said though, I think that it does a pretty good
job at being "good enough." It is actually king of depressing that the
audience probably doesn't know much difference after it goes out the PA
system, but the player sure does miss the rotation.
You wonder about the possibility of Kurzweil putting a tube into the
PC2 keyboard, much like the new Hammond, or the Triton series. That would
probably fix a lot of the lameness of the organ sound and would also do
wonders on the electric pianos.
As another topic, what do you guys think about the latest "fad" of
putting tubes into the keyboards. They sure would cut down some on the need
for external boxes, although they probably will never compete with the
dedicated boxes like the speakeasy, they still would make improvements on
gear.
