Subject:Re: In line mixer and Motif ES7
To respond to a couple of threads...
I've used a Rolls RM65 mixer in a dedicated keyboard rack. One rack space for
6 channels of line/mic, with a prefader monitor send and a postfader effects
send with stereo return. So my rack consists of power conditioner, rolls
mixer, Speakeasy classic stereo rack with 122 out, and Lexicon MPX200 for
reverb. Quiet enough for live work at least, maybe even for studio. 4 spaces
total.
I send the organ clone or Hammond chop ONLY into the monitor send (giving me
enough gain to drive the Speakeasy with anything), which goes to the 122
channel of the Speakeasy. Output Speakeasy channel to Leslie 142. Fader=0
for this channel of the mixer. If I'm in a must mic the Leslie situation, I
use 3 other channels of the Rolls, sending the whole mix to the main outs.
Even in that situation, I'm still left with 2 Rolls channels for mono (into
remaining channel of Speakeasy) or stereo Piano/EP/Synth Keyboard, soon to be
a Motif ES7. (Yes, that is absolutely killer). On ebay, I also bought a
PLG150-AN card for the ES7, for virtual analog for $156!
With the ES7, I could probably do away with the effects unit. However, I also
want to use this tiny mixer for the bands main mixer in itty bitty stage and
room situations where we only mic vocals. For bigger venues, my rack acts as
a keyboard submix.
David---one shortcoming of the Motif is that it has no tempo tap input, if you
wanted to sync those arppegios, phrases, songs, and effects with a live band.
But the LEXICON has a tempo tap jack for a cheap pedal. Midi-solutions also
has a little box that will do this. Bruce sells them.
