My past experience happened to be 147's, mostly 122's. I can get
anywhere in between what I recall of them, Leslies I've heard
recently in clubs, hear on radio, cd's, digital cable music channels,
etc. If someone offered me an even swap - freshly reconditioned 145,
147, 122 for my Pro-145, I wouldn't think twice to decline the
offer. And the tone, speeds, amplifier differences in this range of
Leslies is a minor point to me. I think it was the same with 'name'
players of the classic rock era. You could (and still can)
overdrive, tweak, and hot-rod a Leslie or Hammond to get any of the
unique sounds recorded by them. I seriously doubt there was
any, "No, not a 147! I have to have a 122!" You can set two of the
same model down next to each other, and they won't sound exactly
alike. I lived in L.A. "back in the day;" Studio Instrument Rentals
supplied all the big concert venues. Know what they carried?
Leslies - period. There wasn't anything like, 'We need 122's for the
Santa Monica Civic, but we have to take the 145's to the Shrine.'
Some years they got a better deal buying fresh Leslie stock on 122's,
other years, 147's, etc. The Leslie models I had were the models I
got. I barely noted or cared which model they were. They were
Leslies and sounded great. Organ = Leslie, and a Pro-145 does them
all justice. Wj
