Hmm...not exactly sure where you're coming from on this: people have been having sex since time began (even longer than drinking thank you!), and until the last 100 years, for the most part our patriarchal society didn't care a whit what the woman thought of the sex, or how she was treated during the sex act, or whether she was interested in even having it....man owned woman. So, obviously things have changed in that arena; but just like drinking, eating or anything else, you aren't going to stop people from doing something that is part of their culture as well as their basic primitive instincts. As for our children and sex, I said they MAY have a better grip on it...its obviously way too early for a verdict in that arena. And whether you find Janet Jackson appealing or not is of no consequence: she fits society's criteria of a beautiful woman...she has an incredible physique, gorgeous skin and hair, and a pretty face. Angelina Jolie and Rachel ! Hunter are more my cup of tea, but
that's neither here nor there.

As for your movie ratings, that's all fine and good, but that has no bearing on their true ratings (PG13, R, NC17, G). And in case you haven't noticed, those ARE rated based on their sex and violence content....mostly on their sex content. It's apparently ok for kids to see people shot and mutilated, but sex is a no no. I'm not saying they SHOULD see sex, but if they have to see one or the other, I'm not going to freak out that they saw a breast or a vagina, but I'm liable to lose it if they see someone gored through the face (pick a teen movie, any teen movie: Final Destination, Jason 13, whatever). The fact that grown men are enacting violence on national tv with endorsements and 7 figure contracts
does NOT diminish what in fact it really is...a metaphor for war, and "contained" violence. The fact that I don't want to see it doesn't mean I get to subject my standards of "Decency" upon you. You have the right to turn it on or off...I just don't turn it on. But if you're letting your little kids watch a Super Bowl game and think they're not getting desensitized, think again. It's no less damaging (moreso if you ask me) then letting them see a breast. As for the violent nature of Justin Timberlake's "wardrobe malfunction", I can't speak to that. I didn't watch the Super Bowl or those ridiculous antics: Most television has the nutritional equivalent of a Whopper, and I tend not to watch television passively: I'll choose a movie over most TV programming any day of the week.

As for little girls groping and tonguing in the street, well, what can I tell you? Maybe, like most Americans, their parents need to quit relying on the TV as a babysitter, and find out what their kids are ingesting and help them sort out what is a sad "fact of life." People have sex, they grope, they tongue, they do lots of other things in the name of love too. THATS a fact of life they'll have to come to grips with: they don't necessarily need to come to grips with sexual predators and criminals and familial violence. If more parents were more involved with their children, there'd be less likelihood that they WOULD encounter such things.

People shrieking about Janet Jackson's nipple really do make me laugh; these are the same people that think videogames caused Colombine. Uninvolved parents and untreated mental illness are what caused Colombine. Anything in UNDUE amounts will cause problems, whether you're talking about videogames, fast food, pornography, and yes, religion.

Lets be clear about one thing...I'm not advocating nudity on television, I'm certainly not advocating...what did you call it? or any of the other shock tactics used by ENTERTAINERS, not musicians. But I'm not blind to the fact that the events "sold" by those entertainers, like the Super Bowl, are not that much healthier.

I'm a jeans and T-shirt musician....unless I'm wearing jeans and a nice shirt. THATS the difference...I don't think of myself as an entertainer/performer, although its certainly a component of what I do. Those folks you talk about are NOT musicians primarily, they are entertainers. And that is precisely why the Grammies are a joke.

Now, where did I put my Twinkies.

T

PS...snide commentary like this (fiercely contested football game per the sinister effects of that violence) show exactly how desensitized to violence we are. A flash of nipple gets people more freaked out than 3 hours of pushing and shoving, football/pigskin notwithstanding.
