Hi,
He used many drawbars. Pull some of the top 5 out in varying degrees with
the 4 below flat out and experiment. Shoot for a rich, but not overly bright
sound. Depending on the context. Then ditch some of the 2nd drawbar from the
bottom. See how it hollows it out a bit? For a more aggressive sound, pull out
the upper black drawbars more.
Most English guys favored the 2nd percussion harmonic and used slow(chorale)
speed on the Leslie. Often they used guitar cabs as well. It's a more direct
sound.
They often used no percussion at all. Most of all, listen to the style.
Those cats had some classical training. Yet they still swing in a rock setting.
Frankly, that's a gift. Those two styles, up until the late 60's, were mutually
exclusive. Do your own thing by finding out who THEIR influences were, and
learn some of that stuff.
