Subject:Re: keyboard amp systems.
I was using a Roland KC-500 for my rig & found it much too boomy for
my likes. Then I switched to a KC-300, and while the sound was good,
it was too small to cut through a two-guitar rock band.
Then I came upon a used Mackie 200AM active speaker, similar to the
SRM450 but a little smaller (38 lbs.)--it's usually used for fixed
installation systems. Loved the clarity & power and within 3 months
found a second one on eBay for $300. Now I keep one at rehearsal &
one at home, and for gigs I use both, setting one behind me on one
side of the stage & the other on the opposite side, both up off the
ground on milk crates. Running it stereo out of my board, it sounds
so good I usually don't want to muck it up by going through the P.A.
Organs, synth, piano, Rhodes, strings--all right there. And they've
never gotten hot, but I've never had to turn either speaker over
halfway.
I imagine this new Mackie 350 is pretty awesome as well.
