My 122A came without one new.

My 22 fromthe early '60's I think, still has it on but I gotta pull it away from the wall and it may get removed if too tattered. I would presume starting torque and speed up resitance would be lessened with it in place and without the tatters wind noise might be lower.

I would tend to believe that anyone thinking actual sound is changed by it may well be imagining any difference- this is the Low frequencies after all. This probably also applies somewhat as to whether the wood rotors sound different than the foam ones. OTOH, think I read that Goff definitely repaints rebuilt wooden ones whether for looks only or to move the sound more with a sealed painted surface.
