Subject:Re: MS Pro-145 vs. Leslie 860 w/XK-3
I have a 330 which is the next size up from an 860. All of the Pro
Line leslies are solid state so you would probably want a Speakeasy
preamp to go with an 860.
check out www.captain-foldback.com and look for the Proline leslies.
860s are hard to come by and may turn into a project to get it
sounding right - for one thing it has a 12 inch woofer and you might
not be happy with the bass response.
The MS 145 also has a 12 inch woofer but its newer technology and
people seem pretty happy with it as is. You can also get a subwoofer
for it.
860s have been going for around $500 on ebay over the last few
months. Add in the cost of a tube preamp and consider that you might
have to figure out how to add a bass amp cabinet as well.
If you came across an 860 and wanted to make a project out of it you
could probably end up with a pretty cool compact setup. But if you
can spring for the price of a MS 145 you might be happier with that.
