Subject:OT: IRAQ N ROLL
With all respect to the Group's moderator(s), I respectfully disagree with those who feel the "political" posts should cease; I
think this is an excellent place to discuss the current state of affairs, as long as everyone is respectful to each other and we
keep the discourse at a reasonable level. What makes the discussion here more interesting (to me), and to some degree more valid,
is that we're all just a bunch of musicians who even though we've come together because of a common interest (love of that Hammond
organ sound), we're also a very diverse group with a wide range of opinions. Even though we didn't come together because of
politics, it sure touches all of our lives at this point in our history. I for one find it interesting that guys I've come to know
a little bit about through our common ground of certain musical styles and tastes, might also have completely opposite takes on Bush
and the war situation than I have. Political internet groups are too full of extremists that only want to argue because they love
the debate. Instead, what we have here is just a regular group of guys who happen to love Hammond organs, but still have other
beliefs about something besides which Clone is best.
We're in a unique position to learn a little from one of our own, and I think that not only should we take advantage of it, it's
only natural that Tony's observations would stir up some debate, but as long as everyone is civil and doesn't resort to
name-calling, I don't see anything wrong with that. Instead of burying our heads in the sand, some of us would occasionally like to
know what our fellow Hammond enthusiasts think about besides Hammond organs, but we don't need yet another separate group for the
occasional non-Hammond thread, do we? Like all controversial threads, it will eventually die out once everyone has their say. The
important thing is to keep the Subject line on the actual subject of your email, and then anyone who doesn't want to follow this
thread can easily skip over it (just like I skip over threads that only pertain to the XK-3, of which I don't own and don't plan on
buying anytime soon and don't care to read any more about at this time).
I never take offense with anyone who disagrees with me about politics, religion, etc., but I do take offense when I'm told about
what topics I can and cannot write about. Instead of telling others what to do (or not do) move on to the next topic. Everybody's
email has a Subject line, and if you don't like the subject, just don't read them; you've got a delete button. Five to ten OT
emails a day isn't going to clog up anyone's Inbox and is hardly anything to whine about. And if you disagree with me, just make
sure your Subject line makes it clear what you're talking about.
