Subject:Re: xk-3 unscrewing the top
The four screws across the back just below the top, and the four
small headed screws across the metal wall above the keys and below
the top cover (where the drawbars protrude). The two larger headed
screws (one at each end) stay in. The top wood cover is mounted on a
metal frame that folds down in front and back. The screws go through
the front and back frames and into threaded holes in the top cover's
metal frame. I didn't find anything that would indicate to a service
person that it had been opened before. Also, the tubes are held in
by wire clips so they are easy to remove, but won't fall out on
their own (this is a hint/suggestion ;) if you have some old 12AX7's
laying around). The board that the tubes are plugged into will flex
some when reinserting the tubes, but there is enough room to get a
finger under the edge to support it. The top cover is a snug fit, so
it may take a little pressure to put it back in place.
Good Luck
