This may be a long way to go to test the XK-3, but you can use the
XK-3 keyboard to test the MIDI inputs. I tried this a while ago as
an experiment for something else, but it would work for your
situation as well. Turn the local control off (pg. 86) this
will "disconnect" the keyboard from the sound generator. Make sure
that the local control is turned off and that no notes play before
continuing, if it is still on and you do what I've written next, it
will explode. No, actually you will cause it to double trigger notes
and some will stick on. Press the Bank and Rec/Jump buttons together
to turn stuck notes off (Tip on pg. 87) Set the MIDI in for IN1/IN2.
Set up an external zone (pg. 84) to play the full range of notes and
transmit on channel 1 (you can change the channel to 2 and 3 to test
the lower manual and pedals). Run a MIDI cable from the MIDI out to
the MIDI In 1. The XK-3 now thinks it is being played by an external
keyboard. I think you could set keyboard to have three zones
transmitting on three channels to test all three "manuals" at the
same time.
