Subject:My V5+ Review

A few days ago received the Voce V5+ I ordered through Guitar Center. I have to say I’m very impressed with this unit. Hats off to Dave Amels and his crew for making a real musical instrument!

The V5+ succeeds in its mission to emulate the Hammond in several ways. First, the overall sound of the V5 is very pleasing. Rich and creamy (I guess food analogies are the most appropriate). Secondly, the detail of the sound is striking. The slightest movement of one drawbar makes a noticeable difference in the tone. I have a Roland VK-77, and it doesn’t come close to this. Third, it’s set up in a logical way. All the important controls you need are in front of you and changeable with the twist of a knob or push of a button. Fourth, the chorus is great (especially C3 and C2, the ones we usually use). Fifth, the strength of the tone across the keyboard range: It doesn’t wimp out as you ascend to the upper reaches.



On a related topic: I’m using my Yamaha Motif 7 as a controller. Much to my delight I discovered I can MIDI the Voce to the Yamaha and then run the audio out of the V5+ back into the Motif through the A/D input jacks! Inside the Motif I can add reverb and other effects(yes, rotary speaker, too) to the V5+ signal before it is sent to the Motif’s audio out. So, only one audio link from the synthesizers to the amp. Cool!
