Subject:Re: XK-3 Leslie sim edit question.
Coming from a guy who owns 6 Leslies, I admit that I am overly critical
of this difficult to replicate effect.
However, contrary to Bob's statement, I have no vendetta against the
XK3. In fact, it's my current favorite clone out there. Nothing compares
to its tone, chorus/vibrato, and keyboard action.
I will tell you where the Leslie issue originated.. Way back in the
world of XB2's, XK2's, etc. the Leslie sims were always severely lacking
versus the competition's. And why is that? It seems to make perfect
sense to me that H/Z would not wish to compete with themselves.. You
see, H/Z also sells Leslies. Notice that at NAMM they had the XK3
playing through a Leslie 21 system. It sounded great through the Leslie,
and somewhat lame through headphones (with the sim).
You see, H/Z could develop a decent Leslie sim if they wanted to. Why
not just copy the CX3's?
So what would be a very good clone setup right now? My vote is the XK3
through a Leslie 21 or Motion Sound system.

Thomas,
Be leery of this evaluation. It is highly exagerated in my
opinion.
To say that it is, "not even close to passable" is way over the top. J
seems to
really know his stuff when it comes to a lot of music related issues but
for
the life of me I can't figure out where his vendetta against the XK-3,
especially the Leslie sim, originated. Go hear it for yourself and
listen to others
who own it and have given their opinions. You'll see at least that the
term,
"not passable" kind of stretched his credibility in this area. I think T
hit it
right on the head, the more tweakability = the more you will never be
satisfied. A lot of folks don't seem to want to know what a certain
clone can do, they
get caught up in, "What else can it do ? Just like on road trips; "Will
you
leave the radio on ONE God damned station please!!!!"
