Subject:Was leslie 21, but now is Pro145/Leslie
Well......
I'm one of those guys who said "it doesn't sound as good as my leslie, but it is quite small and lightweight and shippable for those instances where a leslie just isn't practical (or affordable to transport via airline)." Sorry, but that is not twisting reality. It's stating a fact that does happen to agree with my rationale for buying it. (What's funny to me is that you snipped my comment, and then debated it, using my logic! I don't see the difference between "more concerned with the weight and transport of their gear than just how it sounds" and "more portable leslie with competitive power and sound." I dont.)
And speaking of twisting, please don't distort my words Jake. Saying "more concerned with the weight and transport of their gear than JUST how it sounds" is not the same as saying "gee this sounds like crap, but...." While you are under the impression that the Pro 145 sounds "as good as a leslie", I haven't distorted your opinion to rationalize mine. No one is attacking your preference for the Pro 145 to your real leslie...in fact, most keyboard players think I'm the stupid one for carrying a leslie; your choice is indeed the more popular choice as evidenced by the number of MS products on small stages compared to real leslies.
Most touring guys I know who have to handle their own gear are NOT taking leslies; they all tell me they would prefer to, but nobody wants "to haul that big thing around." That tells me that yes indeed, many keyboard players are using my rationale for buying their MS products. It's a sound rationale with good results. I'm not knocking the MS products...if I thought it "sounded like crap", do you really think I would shell out $1600? At the very least, I think I've honestly represented myself as a tone snob (some folks might take that representation of me to another level). The fact that I use it so rarely speaks volumes that I would actually pay that kind of money to have this option. Like my Nord Electro, the logistics of transporting it set the criteria I had for purchasing it. Just so happens, I like the purchase. But...as much as I love my XK3 and Electro, I would be lying through my teeth to say they're just as good my B3. Imagine the outrage of Hammond players reading
that!!!! They're fantastic sounding, lightweight and portable alternatives to the Hammond organ, but they don't sound THAT good. So it is for the Pro145...it's a fantastic sounding, lightweight and portable alternative to the 122 leslie, but it don't sound THAT good!
That's not attacking it, or anyone that uses it. And keep in mind, all of this pertains to the MS1771, which will be a full-size leslie alternative (thereby removing lightweight and portable from the description), which is what we were debating in the first place when discussing the price and tone.

Actually, the Pro-145 is designed for the musician who wants a more

I carried a 147 in the trunk of my 65 chevy with pads and the trunk
tied down. If I really wanted to I still could carry a full-size 122
or 147 Leslie. I don't want to, even with plenty of help available,
since I love the way a Pro-145 sounds. That's an individual opinion,
more concerned with the way it sounds than the weight and transport.
If I didn't like the way it sounded, I would have gone back to my
original plans to either buy a SE Road Leslie or a used 122/147 to
modify.. really. Walter
