Not positive about the VK8m but my VR760 (same insides) responds as you would expect a real Hammond expression pedal e.g. as well as increasing volume the amount of 'overdrive' increases also.

Subject: [CWSG] Swell/expression on the Roland clones

I'm considering buying a VK-8M, and I've already received lots of
helpful comments and advice from this and other groups.

One thing I haven't heard mentioned is the swell/expression effect.
How well is it implemented in the Roland range of clones?

In the Electro it is done rather well, with some grit and distortion
added when the pedal is at max, and a mwllow tone when it is low.
