See! You have the correct instincts already: it's not about overpowering anyone, it's about getting a richer soundfield with some depth with less volume. Thats why it's called "sound reinforcement."

Now relax dammit! You're sounding less and less like a hippie all the time!

Surprising, ain't it. I bought the cabs that also have an 8 inch
speaker. (1584) Really brings out the nuances in the midrange. This thing is
crystal clear with keyboards, vocals, bass drum/snare, and bass running at rock
volume. We balanced everything pretty even, contrary to some folks misconceptions
of what I had in mind for it. I was never going for overpowering anyone else.
In fact it was the guitar players idea for running the keyboards through our
own PA in the first place! The band loves the way the keyboards surround the
whole sound rather than blaring from one corner. My main goal was to spread the
sound out, not volume. I actually found myself using less volume and getting a
more full sound. Just started messing with it really, and already have
learned a lot despite my limited "ability" and no sound re-enforcement degree. OHF
