Subject:Re: Hammond XK3 ??

The XK-3 doesn't sound exactly like the new B-3. According to Joey
DeFrancesco, who I spoke with at one of his gigs recently, they don't
have the chorus/vib right yet. There was quite a bit of feedback to
the Japanese engineer at NAMM to that effect, so maybe they will
tweak it before they release it. Also, the leslie sim is supposed to
be not that great. There has also been a lot of (conspiracy theory)
debate as to whether HamSuz would even want to have an accurate
sounding sim, since it would help cut into real Leslie sales.

FWIW, Joey now carries and plays a New B-3 every night. I sat six
feet from his Leslies, and found that the tone was very good, but
still lacked the "aliveness" of real spinning wheels. I know that's
vague, but it was sometimes a little sterile with the rotors stopped.

Still all in all, it is sounding closer to the real thing than ever.
