Yes, I use those orange foam ear plugs when I play. They are cheap,
comfortable, and after a few jobs, I toss 'em. They cut about 30 db, and
it's wonderful. It sounds like the band is in the next room. I can hear
everything balanced perfectly, and I can even hear spoken words over the
din! The only thing to get used to is that the high end is cut more than
the low, so you have to be careful not to overcompensate. I spent too many
years in loud bands through the '60's and '70's, and I've been lucky enough
not to have damaged my hearing very much. But, I can no longer tolerate
(nor would I want to tolerate) loud noise, so if it weren't for these
things, I probably couldn't play live at all. Get some - you'll be glad you
did (and you'll be able to hear your grandchildren when they're playing the
organ in some rock band)!
