Subject:Re: Scratch Built Leslie Project
The cabinet shell used 5 ply birch cabinet plywood with a birch
veneer inside and out. The upper and lower compartment shelves used
a lower-grade of plywood which was also 5 ply but was not cabinet
grade. This lesser grade you might use, perhaps for a countertop if
you are planning on covering it with a laminate.
I found that after I machined the slots and "thumped" the wood slats
between them the whole cabinet seemed to have a complex resonant
quality that I'm sure was excited into vibration by the various tones
of the keyboard to help reinforce the sound. I don't know from a
*purist's* standpoint whether this hurts the sound or helps it, but
I'm not complaining. I'm pleased with how it turned out. If I can
get some mp3 samples made, I'll put them up on my project page and
update the list :)
Best regards,
Kevin
