Subject:Alternative Leslie Power Amps
Some time ago I posted some questions regarding my Leslie 46W. One of the
more interesting responses I got involved taking an old tube bass amp, like
a Fender Bassman, and using that as the power amp. I've thought about this
interesting approach, and it seems to have some benefits - ability to jack
up the power beyond the 20 or 40 watts, it gets rid of the proprietary power
cord, and it's "unique." In looking around on the clonewheel site, I see
that someone else is doing this, looked like a Fender Vibratone (?).
My first question - how in the heck do you get that Leslie 4-pin plug to
interface with a 1/4 plug? Also, will I have to replace the stock drivers
with higher power drivers? My assumption is that, eventually, I'll have to
put something in there that can handle more power (that was one of the
reasons for doing this). Finally, for those few of you that are doing this,
how do you handle AC switching for the motors, and what do you prefer on an
amp?
Thanks,
Josh
