Subject:V5, Studiologic SL-161, Yamaha FC-7
I went ahead and bought a FC-7 volume pedal because of the praise on
this forum and relatively low cost (zzounds $39.95). I had been
using an in-line Ernie Ball. Since the V5 doesn't accomodate an
expression pedal, I checked and my SL-161 has a input jack
for "volume". Right out of the box the FC-7 worked without having to
adapt it. Also, it worked very well, much better than my Ernie Ball
and more like a Hammond pedal. There's a few small adjustments I'm
going to make....set it up for sitting down playing, etc. I'm glad
it worked right out of the box, partly because I'm very midi-
challenged beyond hooking up cables, and because the SL-161 has
limited programming abilities and no screen for cc#'s. The Ernie
Ball had started to get a little noisy, and the FC-7 was quiet and
simplifies the set-up some (every little bit helps!)
One question I have....before I was always confused about order of
hookups and signal path because I also use a Speakeasy Classic preamp
wedge.........V5-->Speakeasy--->Ernie Ball--->Pro 3T ? or V5--->Ernie
Ball--->Speakeasy-->Pro 3T? (I had been using the first version
after reading similar questions on this forum) Now with the FC-7
into the SL-161 it seems to utilize the Speakeasy better, almost like
I can feel the signal pumping the Speakeasy, making it "kick in"
progressively as I swell the pedal, more like my real Hammonds. How
is the signal different with my new arrangement over the old? It may
be elementary, but I'm just a self-taught middle aged slightly over
weight old hippie/hillbilly and inquiring minds like mine want to
know!
