Nope. There is no bypass as far as I can tell. I bought a 8m a few months back and sent it back solely because of this. It's a wonderful module, and I loved the sound!! But I got an Electro instead. I tried to get some answers and here're the responses I got:

From some cocky guy at Guitar Center: "Why would you want to disabled the leslie sim?" [perplexed look] "Why would you want to use a real leslie when you have a leslie sim?" "You're telling me you're gonna try miking a real leslie?! Good luck, man."

From Roland Technical Support: "Hmmm... I'm not very familiar with that product. Let me see. Well, I'm sorry but you can't use a leslie with the VK-8M because it doesn't have the right plug in for the leslie cable. What? You mean you can use a leslie without the leslie cable? OK, well, it looks like the module has Slow, Fast and Brake [reading the product brochure]. Brake should do it. No? OK, it says here it there's four kinds of amp modeling. You can just turn the Overdrive and Tone all the way down and that should do it. No? Are you SURE? OK, let me check with someone else. [pause] Yeah, well, it looks like there's a bypass button on the VK-8 but not on the VK-8M. I don't know why. Sorry."

hehe. Although the 8M sounds good through my Leslie, I wasn't convinced it was not a processed signal coming out of the module. There is always some kind of amp modeling turned on, because you can't NOT select one of the four amp modeling options. I could not find any MIDI parameter that would control this either.

Until they fix this, I'd get an electro instead. Good luck!

My impression is, that the VK8m has a bunch of parameters, that can be
controlled via MIDI sysex. Would that be a way to go? I don't have any
details, so this is just guessing and poking around. Hope nobody minds
it.
